ONTARIO, Calif. () — A man accused of setting multiple fires inside the Ontario Mills mall earlier this month pleaded not guilty to several charges.
Luis Javier Gallegos Jr., a 28-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, appeared in court on Tuesday.
Gallegos was charged with 11 counts of arson of property, two counts of criminal threats and one count each of arson of a structure, resisting an officer and attempting to remove an officer’s firearm, according to prosecutors.
Bail was set at $2 million. Gallegos’ next court date is scheduled for next week.
Multiple fires were set inside stores at the Ontario Mills mall on April 10, prompting an arson investigation, authorities said.
Gallegos was arrested at the scene in connection with the fires. Authorities said they had to use force to take him into custody.
A motive remains unclear.
