Tropical Smoothie Cafe is rolling out a major brand refresh as the fast-casual chain builds on rapid growth and prepares for its next phase of expansion.
The Atlanta-based company — best known for its made-to-order smoothies, wraps and bowls — has surpassed $1.6 billion in system sales, grown its loyalty program to 13 million members and is on track to top 1,800 locations by the end of the year.
It is also expanding into airports and military bases while laying the groundwork for future international growth.
As part of that push, Tropical Smoothie Cafe unveiled a new brand identity, redesigned logo and refreshed guest experience on Sept. 16, all centered on its “Eat Some Good!” philosophy.

“This is really less about changing who we are, and it’s really more about expressing what makes Tropical Smoothie Cafe so unique and so special,” CEO Max Wetzel told FOX Business.
Wetzel said the refresh is designed to better reflect the energy inside the restaurants while creating a more consistent experience across every customer touchpoint.
“We wanted to bring consistency across all consumer touchpoints,” he said. “Our brand has evolved quite a bit.”
Wetzel said the company’s rapid growth has been driven by consistently executing the basics rather than chasing any single trend.
“Growth has been a result of a lot of small things done consistently and executed really well,” he said.
He added that Tropical Smoothie Cafe has remained “hyper-focused” on understanding its customers while benefiting from long-term consumer trends, including growing demand for beverages and better-for-you menu options.
As more customers interact with the brand digitally, the company is also investing heavily in technology and restaurant operations.

Wetzel said nearly 40% of Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s sales now come through digital channels, prompting investments in a redesigned website, revamped mobile app and other digital tools.
“Forty percent of our guests are making decisions outside of the cafe,” he said.
The company is also rolling out “Smooth Operator,” a redesigned food preparation system aimed at improving speed, consistency and food quality.
It is also testing self-service kiosks in select restaurants.
Looking ahead, Wetzel said the company still sees significant room to grow across the U.S. before accelerating its international expansion.
“We’re not chasing growth just for growth’s sake,” he said. “…We are very disciplined and focused in the way that we’re approaching growth.”
Despite continued pressure on consumers’ wallets, Wetzel said diners are still willing to spend when they believe they’re getting good value.

“I would say that consumers aren’t looking for the cheapest option. I think they’re looking for great value for the dollars that they’re investing in,” he said.
Customers return, Wetzel said, when they know they can count on quality food, fast service and accurate orders.
“At the end of the day, if a guest chooses you or one of our competitors, it comes down to trust, and that trust is built by consistency,” he said.
