The world’s longest cruise just set sail from Rome

Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days has inspired plenty to follow in the fictional Phileas Fogg’s footsteps, circumnavigating the globe by train, plane and various other means of transport.

But if your aim is to actually see the world, rather than just make your way around it, you’re definitely going to want to slow down just a tad.

Which is exactly what Explorations by Norwegian, the world’s longest continuous scheduled cruise, is offering passengers now.

Having just set sail from Rome, the 348-room Regatta will spend 371 days exploring the world, visiting 220 ports across 62 countries.

While you’ve already missed the boat (NB: here at Euronews Travel, puns are always very much intended) on the first sailing to last over a year by just a few days, there’s still time to book onto the 367-day journey starting in February.

Where Explorations by Norwegian will be headed

If you can think of it (and a cruise ship can reach it), there’s a good chance the Regatta will be headed there.

In Europe, itineraries cover destinations like Santorini, Naples, Copenhagen and Helsinki; in Africa, it will include stops in places such as Cape Verde, Cape Town and Zanzibar. Heading further afield to Asia, the itinerary covers everything from Hiroshima and Jeju Island to Colombo and Malé, while in the Americas you’ll go from Alaska to the Amazon.

Of course, you don’t have to give up more than a year of your life (and NZD$129,990/€65,700 per person) to hop aboard the Regatta, as there are plenty of shorter itineraries on offer, like the 19-night trip around Türkiye, the Greek islands and Malta.

Prior to the launch of the Regatta, the title of world’s longest cruise went to the Ultimate World Cruise by Royal Caribbean, which lasted 274 nights.
