A nurse who was diagnosed with infertility is pregnant with her third baby in two years after taking weight loss jabs to boost her chances of conception.
Areli Ruiz, 35, and her husband Jose Ruiz, 34, refused to give up after being told by doctors she couldn’t conceive and she began taking Ozempic to reduce inflammation in her body.
Through her job as a nurse, she knew it was a leading cause of infertility, and according to the Cleveland Clinic, GLP-1 medication can help fertility by reducing inflammation, regulating testosterone levels, and encouraging ovulation.
After a few months, Areli, from Merced, California, was pregnant, and six months after giving birth to a daughter, she received another positive pregnancy test.
Areli is now eight months pregnant with her third child in two years, after conceiving just eight weeks after giving birth.
She has already bought more Ozempic to help her try for another baby once this one is born and is encouraging women struggling with infertility to consider taking GLP medication.
She said: “When doctors told me I was infertile, I was heartbroken.
“After I got married, I’d hoped to have a family with my husband; my whole world shattered.
“I was so blown away when I got the first positive pregnancy test.
“I thought it was the GLP that helped, so I started taking it again after I gave birth, and six months later, I was pregnant again.
“I now have a two-year-old, a nine-month-old, and I’m eight months pregnant.
“My kids are my GLP miracle babies.
“I will have more if I can.”
Areli and Jose got married in 2017 and soon started trying for a baby to complete their family.
However, after five years of trying, they had had no success, so they decided to go to Stanford University Hospital to test for infertility in 2022.
Areli underwent an FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) test, which measures the amount of follicle-stimulating hormone in a blood sample to evaluate reproductive health.
She then did two cycles of infertility treatment, both of which failed, before Areli, who already had a 17-year-old daughter, was diagnosed with secondary infertility in October 2022, the inability to get pregnant after previously successfully giving birth.
Devastated, Areli decided to try to improve her health to boost her chances of conceiving and decided to start taking Ozempic, as she thought it would help inflammation.
“As a nurse, I know that a lot of infertility has to do with inflammation in a woman’s body”, she said.
“And a little bit of weight loss wouldn’t hurt either.
“If I wasn’t going to be able to get pregnant, then at least I would be getting healthier for myself.”
She ordered a batch of Ozempic to her house from an online pharmacy and started taking the jab in early 2023.
“My body started to feel so much better; the inflammation went down. I no longer felt hungry or stressed, I really liked how I felt on it”, she said.
She began tracking her ovulation, and in September 2023, noticed that she had missed a period.
She bought a pregnancy test and was shocked to find it was positive.
“I was so excited but also scared that I would miscarry”, she said.
Thankfully, the pregnancy went smoothly, and she gave birth to a daughter, now two, in April 2024.
Areli had to stop taking Ozempic during her pregnancy, as it is unsafe to take the jabs whilst carrying a baby, but shortly after giving birth, she decided to start taking them again to see if they could help her conceive again.
Six months later, she was pregnant again, and she gave birth to a baby boy in December 2025.
“It’s been really fun raising kids so close in age”, she said.
“I didn’t go back to work after my first pregnancy, and it’s been so nice being at home with them”.
At her six-week post-partum appointment, Areli asked her doctor if it was OK to start the jabs again, to see if she could try and get pregnant for a third time.
“I wanted to start right away because I’m already in my late thirties”, she said.
A month later, she had another positive pregnancy test.
“I got pregnant at eight weeks postpartum; I did not think it would happen that fast”, she said.
Areli’s third “GLP baby”, is due in October 2026.
“I feel so blessed to have been able to have three successful pregnancies after being told I was infertile”, she said.
“People on the internet are always bashing me for having kids so close together, but I truly love it.”
Areli has already ordered more Ozempic, ahead of her baby being born, and plans to have more children if she is able to.
“I would definitely advise women to think about using GLPs to help with infertility”, she said.
