SOUTH LOS ANGELES () — A scooter was apparently thrown onto the 110 Freeway, triggering a seven-car crash in South Los Angeles overnight.
The incident was reported around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Multiple drivers were forced to pull over after someone tossed the electric scooter onto the northbound lanes from the Adams Boulevard overpass.
Four vehicles sustained damage from the scooter, the CHP said. Video from the scene showed part of the scooter wedged underneath one of the cars.
Those who were on the freeway at the time said they were in shock.
“We thought something happened to the tire because when he was turning right, it was kind of like skidding, but then we realized something fell out of the car, and then a bunch of oil leaked out,” said Natalie, who witnessed the incident. “…We looked at the road, and it was a scooter.”
The CHP said there were two separate crashes in the area, in addition to the scooter incident.
Meanwhile, another car was potentially struck by another object in South Los Angeles. Video shows an SUV with a shattered front windshield, but details about what exactly caused the damage were not available.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this report stated that a Lime scooter was tossed onto the freeway. This story has been updated to reflect that it was not a Lime brand e-scooter.
