Windblown dust advisory in effect in Coachella Valley on last day of Stagecoach Country Music Festival

INDIO, Calif. () — A windblown dust advisory has been extended in the Coachella Valley as concertgoers attend the final day of the Stagecoach Country Music Festival.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the Coachella Valley. High winds with gusts up to 40 or 50 mph are expected through Tuesday morning.

Due to the high winds, dust and high particle pollution is expected to be in the unhealthy category in Northern Coachella Valley through Tuesday morning, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. In other areas of the Coachella Valley, the air quality is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The Stagecoach Country Music Festival is expected to conclude as scheduled on Sunday in Indio with Post Malone set to headline the final night, one day after the festival was disrupted by high winds that resulted in a temporary evacuation and suspension before organizers reopened the event around 9 p.m.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Stagecoach Country Music Festival temporarily evacuated due to high winds in Indio

Marshmello was performing when the evacuation notice was issued Saturday night, with announcements instructing crowds to exit immediately. The disruption pushed back the starting time for sets by Lainey Wilson and Pitbull and forced the removal of Riley Green and Journey from Saturday’s lineup altogether.

Photos from inside the festival showed an emergency evacuation warning on the stage screens that read: “The festival has been postponed until further notice. Please move quickly and calmly to the nearest exit.”

The Stagecoach Country Music Festival was temporarily postponed and evacuated on Saturday due to high winds.

As for Sunday, organizers noted on social media that the festival was “Back in the saddle” at the Empire Polo Club, 81800 51st Ave.

In addition to Post Malone, Sunday’s lineup also includes Warren Zeiders, Third Eye Blind, Ty Myers, Max McNown, Amos Lee, Gabriella Rose and Brett Young.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that was initially expected to expire Sunday at 11 a.m., but was extended until at least 5 p.m. Sunday, warning of west winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph in the Coachella Valley, San Gorgonio Pass, Apple and Lucerne valleys and the San Diego County deserts.
