Travis Kelce was not by the side of his fiancée, Taylor Swift, at the red carpet premiere of Toy Story 5 on Tuesday, June 9 — but the Kansas City Chiefs star had a good excuse.
Kelce, 36, was thousands of miles away at the first day of Chiefs mandatory minicamp at the University of Kansas Health System Training Complex in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Chiefs social media accounts shared photos of a smiling Kelce on the field on Tuesday. “Mini camp off to a good start 🤝,” the team wrote.
Hours later, Swift, 36, made a surprise appearance at the movie’s premiere at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
Swift recorded the song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, and surprised premiere attendees again when she hit the stage for a performance of the song after the movie.
The pop star was then joined by the legendary Randy Newman, who composed the music for all five Toy Story installments and wrote some of the franchise’s most iconic songs, for a performance of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
“It means the world to me to be a small part of these films,” Swift said.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19.
While Kelce wasn’t able to support Swift in-person on Tuesday night, he’s previously spoken about how her work ethic inspired him to return for a 14th NFL season.
“We share the same love for what we do,” Kelce said of his fiancée on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show in March. “Fortunately, we’ve had this desire since we were kids in our selective professions. It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies and things like that. On top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does.”
He continued, “Of course that’s motivating. That’s motivating for anybody, let alone my fiancée. I’m going through something trying to figure out what exactly the future holds for me. Something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what, I’m not done either. I’ve still got some ideas in the back of my mind. I’ve still got some juice left to play this game.’”
Chiefs mandatory minicamp continues through Thursday, June 11, before full training camp resumes later this summer. Kansas City opens up the 2026 regular season schedule on September 14, at home against the Denver Broncos.
