President Donald Trump has canceled plans to attend the Saturday, October 10, game between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide.
“Based on the fact that a huge Hurricane/Storm is coming, it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the President of the United States, ME!” Trump, 80, wrote via his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday, October 9.
“Therefore, I will miss that potentially unbelievable Game, Alabama vs. Georgia but, hopefully, the Game will go on despite the weather!” the president continued. “I will be visiting both of those Teams at a later date. Instead, I will go to Tennessee, where we have quickly called a Big Rally in order to get our fantastic Congressional Candidates, Our Great Senator, Bill Hagerty, and a woman who will go down as one of the most impactful Governors in the State’s History, Marsha Blackburn, elected!”
The president ended his social media announcement in his signature style — his name in all caps.
Trump’s canceled plans comes as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall along the Gulf Coast. The game, scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is expected to take place as planned at the time of publication and despite concerns of severe weather.

The college football stadium is not believed to be in the path of the storm, though Gov. Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency after Isaias was strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane on Friday, with winds hitting an expected 120 mph. Tuscaloosa is under a tropical storm warning, according to The Hill.
Trump had remained steadfast in his initial decision to attend the game — and just 24 days ahead of the midterm elections and amid a historic low approval rating — as recently as Wednesday, October 7.
“I love Alabama. I gotta go to the game. It’d be awfully hard,” Trump told a gaggle of reporters at the time, while also noting that he did not want his present at the game to pull essential law enforcement and first responder resources. “We’ll have to see.”
As the country prepares to vote in what many political pundits, pollsters and experts believe will be a referendum on Trump and his administration, the president has been making frequent public visits to various sporting events.
The commander-in-chief was loudly booed shortly after he was introduced at the highly-anticipated September 26 matchup between Texas and Tennessee. (Trump declined to publicly endorse either team ahead of the game.)
Prior to the matchup — Texas walked away victorious after a 20-17 win over the Volunteers — the president first took part in a pregame Air Force One flyover at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. He then took his seat in a secure suit next to gubernatorial candidate Blackburn, a steadfast and self-proclaimed MAGA supporter.
“Ladies and gentleman, the 45th president and 47th president of the United States — Donald J. Trump,” the announcer said over the intercom and as Trump was shown on the jumbotron. He was met with audible boos amid some positive cheers, which seemed not to bother the president at the time.
