The Scrubs revival is returning for a second season — but not every cast member is coming back.
The medical sitcom, which originally aired from 2001 to 2010, followed the lives of employees at the fictional teaching hospital Sacred Heart Hospital. The hit series starred Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins and John C. McGinley before it was brought back for a ninth season titled Med School.
In season 8, JD (Braff) left Sacred Heart while Elliott (Chalke), Turk (Faison), Dr. Cox (McGinley) and Carla (Reyes) remained at the teaching hospital. The show’s final season moved the setting to a medical school to introduce new characters.
Only Braff, Faison and McGinley remained regular cast members while others made guest appearances. Kerry Bishé, Eliza Coupe, Dave Franco and Michael Mosley were brought in, and Bishé became the show’s new narrator after Braff, but the concept only lasted one season.
JD and Elliott briefly returned in season 9 in a time jump where they were seen getting married and welcoming a baby. ABC confirmed in July 2025 that the network would be reviving the show for season 10.
While the Scrubs revival was renewed for another season, there were several surprise cast exits. Keep scrolling to see who will and won’t be back:
Zach Braff
JD a.k.a Braff will be front and center in season 2 of the revival.
Sarah Chalke
Chalke is reprising her role as Elliott as well.
Donald Faison
Rounding out the main cast is Faison, who plays Tucker.
Joel Kim Booster
Booster, who played Dr. Kevin Park in season 1, will not return.
Ava Bunn
Bunn has been promoted to series regular in season 2.
X Mayo
Mayo, who recurred as Charge Nurse Raymond, is also not set to be back in season 2.

Jacob Dudman
Dudman will recur in season 2.
David Gridley
As part of the interns, Gridley will also be a recurring cast member.
Layla Mohammadi
Mohammadi is expected back as part of the recurring cast.
Amanda Morrow
Morrow will recur in season 2.
Rachel Bilson
After being introduced as Charlie, Bilson’s role is being expanded in season 2.
John C. McGinley
McGinley will be back in a recurring capacity.
Judy Reyes
Reyes is also a recurring cast member while filming other projects outside of Scrubs.
