‘Unsafe condition’: Flight canceled after unruly toddler stood on seat, refused to fasten seatbelt

They treated it like a plane-ground.

A cross-Canada flight had to be canceled after a misbehaving tot refused to fasten their seat belt, stranding the passengers until the following day.

The ludicrous incident occurred on Thursday, Aug. 6, after Porter Airlines flight PD444 had departed the terminal at Victoria International Airport (YYJ) in British Columbia and was prepping to take off for Toronto, CTV News reported.

However, their trip hit a hiccup after crew-members noticed the tyke “standing in their seat” and refusing to “secure their seatbelt,” Porter Airlines reps told the outlet.

“The aircraft could not take off in this unsafe condition, so the crew elected to return to the terminal and have the passengers disembark,” said Porter Airlines reps in a statement. Andrey Popov – stock.adobe.com

The tot’s parents and crew members attempted to strap the unruly child in, but to no avail, leaving them with no choice but to abort takeoff.

“The aircraft could not take off in this unsafe condition, so the crew elected to return to the terminal and have the passengers disembark,” the carrier’s reps recalled.

Unfortunately, by the time the family had deplaned and filed the requisite paper work, it was past 12:30am, which is when the runway shutters.

As a result, they had to reschedule the trip for the following day, forcing the flyers to stay the night in Victoria.

Their flight departed on Friday at 10:49 am local time and touched down in Toronto at 6:16 am, according to FlightAware.

Porter Airlines reps apologized “for the effect” the cancellation had on the passengers.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a toddler’s antics have impacted a flight.

Last month, a frustrated flyer took to Reddit to complain that their flight to Sweden was an hour behind because “incompetent parents” couldn’t make their 3-year-old “brat” sit in his seat while the crew was prepping for takeoff.

“Apparently, he was too old to safely sit in his parents’ lap,” they wrote. “So after much screaming from the child, the parents were forced to deboard. We then had to go through the whole thing of refuelling, weights and balance, removing their bags etc.”

“I would seriously pay extra to go on adult-only flights,” they added.

Their account divided commenters with some blaming the parents while others claimed that some toddlers are too difficult to wrangle even for seasoned guardians.

“Even good, experienced parents can’t control a toddler at some point,” said one. “The toddler meltdown is known far and wide and the phenomenon still baffles scientists to this day.”
