Two California pizzerias ranked top 5 in the world

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore?

California has earned a double slice of pizza glory, with two Golden State restaurants tying for fifth place among the world’s best pizzerias.

Los Angeles’ Pizzeria Sei and San Francisco’s Tony’s Pizza Napoletana both landed at No. 5 in the 2026 50 Top Pizza world rankings, announced Tuesday in Naples, Italy.

Both pizzerias climbed from their 2025 rankings.

Pizzeria Sei jumped from No. 9 in the world last year, while Tony’s Pizza Napoletana moved up from No. 10.

Tony’s — located on Stockton Street in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood — has become a regular fixture in the rankings.

The pizzeria, owned by Tony Gemignani, ranked No. 6 in 2024, No. 19 in 2023 and No. 10 in 2022.

Gemignani traveled to Naples for Tuesday’s ceremony, with the restaurant celebrating the news on social media.

“We would like to congratulate and thank our team at Tony’s for all their dedicated hard work,” the restaurant wrote in a post on Instagram.

“We love pizza here at Tony’s and to be recognized with this award is an honor.”

Meanwhile, Pizzeria Sei’s latest recognition comes after the LA hot spot was previously ranked the No. 2 pizzeria in the US and the top pizza spot in California.

The Tokyo-style Italian pizzeria was launched in 2022 by South Korean-born, LA-raised chef William Joo and his wife and business partner, Jennifer So.

Joo’s pies combine traditional Neapolitan pizza-making techniques with Japanese precision, producing the blistered, leopard-spotted crusts that have helped turn the original location on West Pico Boulevard into a major pizza destination.

The Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant has since expanded with a larger West LA location, which opened June 24.
