Trader Joe’s is expanding its presence in New York and across the US in 2026 with 25 new stores on the way.
The grocery chain announced Wednesday that it will open nine new locations across 14 states. While eight states currently remain without a Trader Joe’s, the company is increasing its investment in regions with high consumer demand and population density.
The nine newly announced locations include:
- Arizona: Phoenix (21001 North Tatum Boulevard, Suite 1030)
- Florida: Sarasota (8199 S Tamiami Trail, Unit 100)
- Illinois: Chicago (804 West Montrose Ave.)
- Massachusetts: Quincy (111 General McConville Way)
- Michigan: Farmington Hills (27658 Middlebelt Rd.)
- New York: Syracuse (3515 West Genesee St.)
- New York: Yonkers (2482 Central Park Ave.)
- Ohio: University Heights (2643 Warrensville Center Rd.)
- Utah: West Jordan (5561 W 7800 S.)
Several additional stores have recently opened or are scheduled to join the company’s retail network:

- California: Paso Robles (2457 Golden Hill Rd.)
- Florida: Orlando (1444 North Alafaya Trail)

- Georgia: Johns Creek (1000 Medley Blvd.)
- Illinois: Oswego (1930 US-34)
- Kansas: Merriam (8700 Shawnee Mission Parkway)
- Louisiana: New Orleans (2428 Napoleon Ave.),
- Louisiana: Mandeville (3377 US Highway 190)
- Louisiana: Lafayette (1710 Camellia Blvd.)
- Massachusetts: Reading (34 Walkers Brook Drive)
- New Jersey: West Orange (471 Mt. Pleasant Ave.)
- Utah: Herriman (4850 W. 13400 South)
- Washington: Seattle (401 NE Northgate Way)
- Washington: Spokane Valley (13414 E. Sprague Ave.)
TJ’s has maintained a steady growth rate, opening 34 stores in 2024 and 43 stores in 2025.
Specific opening dates for the nine new locations have not yet been released, but the California-based retailers plan to have their store expansions completed over the next six months.
Recent openings include West Palm Beach, Fla., on June 12, the New Orleans, La., location on June 10 and the Tucson, Ariz., location on May 29.
They also opened four other new storefronts as of May, including in Hamden, Connecticut; Miller Place, New York; McKinney, Texas and Woodinville, Washington.
Trader Joe’s now operates in 42 states and the District of Columbia. The states currently without a location are Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Operating over 600 storefronts, the company utilizes a strategic expansion model. A primary component of its business strategy is its private-label products and a rotating inventory to maintain consumer interest.
The brand focuses on providing competitive pricing with quality products, appealing to cost-conscious shoppers who also want reliability.
In October 2024, the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast hosts shared that the chain looks at population density and traffic when selecting locations for new stores.
The lack of TJ’s locations in the missing states is due to the low population density and the geographic barrier posed to the grocer’s supply chain. Hawaii and Alaska, for example, are distant from the majority of Trader Joe’s products that are made and distributed.
Trader Joe’s CEO told the Anchorage Daily News, “Opening stores outside the 48 states requires us to solve unique logistical and operational problems and we would only open stores where we are able to bring real value to our customers.”
