When a suspicious partner reaches for their other half’s phone, their first move is usually to check text messages.
But just because nothing incriminating shows up, doesn’t mean there aren’t secrets hiding in plain sight.
Aussie influencer Skye Wheatley, who has been open about her relationship struggles, has gone viral on TikTok after revealing a little-known iPhone feature that can uncover deleted text messages.
However, the trick only works on Apple devices.
Wheatley told followers to open the built-in Messages app, tap the ‘Edit’ button in the top left corner and select ‘Show recently deleted’.
From there, all recently deleted chats will appear, and any conversation you choose to recover will be restored straight into the inbox for reading (at your own risk).
Wheatley, who recently confirmed she’s split from long-term partner Lachlan Waugh, said in her caption, “Don’t be naive sis”.
When followers asked if she was hinting at something, she replied, “Nah just want my girlies to be safe”.
While it’s unclear whether her post was related to her own love life, plenty of others flooded the comments to say the trick had exposed cheating partners.
Mom blogger Bella Messina, whose marriage with Adrian Messina has been subject to cheating rumors, wrote, “Can vouch that this feature can be vvveeerrryyyyy helpful xx”.
Someone else echoed: “Exactly how I found mine”.
A third shared, “This is how I found girls’ names, and I was 40 weeks pregnant,” while a fourth revealed that this method exposed their partner hiring escorts.
Meanwhile, other users praised Wheatley for sharing the hack.
“This saved my life,” one wrote.
“I never would have thought about this,” another added.
But if this trick doesn’t work, there are a few other tactics to try …
Private investigator Cassie Crofts, from Venus Investigations, told news.com.au that cheaters often find more creative ways to hide their tracks.
“They use the Notes app that comes built-in with your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook,” Crofts explains.
“Once you start a new note, you can hit the ‘More’ button and select ‘Share Note’.
“From there, it’s easy to add someone’s details as a collaborator, and once they accept the invite, you’re good to go.
“The pair can now send secret messages to each other, deleting them after reading. They can even add a password to keep snoopers out.”
And it’s not just texts – videos and images can also be shared within the note, making it easier than ever to share spicy content.
Another red flag, Crofts added, can show up in your emoji keyboard.
“One client grew suspicious when she noticed the eggplant emoji in her boyfriend’s frequently used section,” Crofts says.
“But she’d never received one from him. It seemed trivial, but it turned out he was sending flirty messages to someone else.”
