SUNLAND, LOS ANGELES () — Police are searching for a man who neighbors say stabbed a little girl and her grandfather as they were getting ready for school in Sunland Friday morning.
The incident happened around 7:45 a.m. on Eldora Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
They were both taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. Their exact ages have not been released.
Police say the suspect stole the victim’s Volvo after the stabbing and abandoned it a few miles away on McVine Avenue.
Neighbors in the area were shaken up by the stabbing, but weren’t surprised.
Police described the suspect as a transient, but residents told Eyewitness News he’s been a problem on the street for some time. They added he’s been staying with family members at the house next door to the victims.
“All kinds of crazy stuff,” said neighbor Mike Agajanyan. “Just your worst nightmare as a neighbor. You don’t want this in your neighborhood.”
Another neighbor shared a photo of what they say is the suspect sitting next to a tree looking over their fence.
The LAPD said the suspect is a man between 25-35 years old, with long, dark hair and wearing dark clothing. He remains outstanding.
Police have not released the suspect’s name, but said he likely suffers from mental health issues.
