The unofficial champion of spooky season has been revealed.
Halloween is just weeks away, and those looking to sport their favorite get-up may want to hurry and scoop up a costume. If you need some help deciding, the self-proclaimed “heavyweight champ” of Halloween has got you covered.
Spirit Halloween — the largest Halloween retailer in North America — just dropped its costume trend report — and it’s scary good. The New Jersey-based seasonal retailer has been “lurking, watching, decoding and obsessing” over what it feels is likely to be showing up on your doorsteps begging for candy.
“People often ask how we predict Halloween trends. The reality is we’re watching them develop all year long,” said Kym Sarkos, executive vice president of Spirit Halloween. “From blockbuster entertainment and gaming to social media and nostalgia, our team is constantly tracking what’s capturing attention so we can be ready with the looks fans want most.”
The Halloween shop broke down the trends into a few categories:
- The hyped and the hot
- Myth, lore and high fantasy
- Chaos, horror and pixelated madness
From the hyped and the hot collection, couples can scoop up the varsity swag and campus crushes. As the Off Campus sensation has taken over TVs, the big-box retailer suspects the classic licensed jerseys, crisp varsity jackets and iconic looks will be a huge hit.
The Halloween giant is also willing to bet “the toys will be taking over” streets. This means get ready to see a bunch of Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Slinky Dog out to play this year.
Demon Hunters is likely to be another fan favorite after KPop Demon Hunters had a breakout year. Trick-or-treaters will be all gussied up in costumes inspired by the supernatural heroes and signature style.
Get ready to feel old as you may see what Spirit Halloween is calling the Y2K icon — an it girl serving “high-octane glam and a sexy edge.”
In the fantasy realm, mythological lore is making a savage comeback thanks to movies like The Odyssey. Think battle-hardened Greek armor, flowing cloaks, showing off buff arms and accessories of epic proportions.
As horror never loses its cool, the chain thinks folks will be wearing items from viral internet horrors, blood-curdling new-school cinema — like Obsession — and tons of the classic slashers.
It may also be a big night for gamers as costumes inspired by Fortnite and Halo will have fans suiting up as legendary characters.
Whether you’re hitting the neighborhood for some trick-or-treating or dancing at a monster mash, you may want a costume that fits the part.
