Sofia Franklyn is pulling back the curtain on her friendship rift with her former friend and “Call Her Daddy” cohost Alex Cooper in her memoir, Daddy Issues.
In an excerpt shared with The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, October 26, Franklyn, 34, claimed that she and Cooper, 32, had spent months negotiating with Barstool and Dave Portnoy over the IP for “Call Her Daddy.” (The podcast launched at Barstool in 2018, where it lived until 2021.)
After a FaceTime with Cooper, Franklyn received a phone call from the pair’s lawyer, Bruce.
“‘Hi, Sofia, one more thing and then I’ll send over that form for you to sign. I reviewed Alex’s contract. Remember you guys told me you had the same agreement, so I was just working off yours, but what was the basis for her higher compensation?’” Franklyn recalled Bruce asking her, writing that she felt like she had “been told someone died.”
“‘As in, she’s making more money than me?’” Franklyn asked Bruce, who replied, “‘Yeah, is that not something you’d talked about?’”
Franklyn alleged that it was not something the pair had discussed, before asking Bruce if he thought “that’s weird she lied to you about it?” He replied, “Well, it’s something to keep in mind …”
Franklyn noted that Bruce’s “unwavering neutrality” was “off-putting” but said that was something she would “think about” later.
“All rationality is gone. The bitch. I feel pure hatred. I might combust,” she wrote. “Who is this person? Alex, who is she? Am I stupid? Gullible? Dumb? Naive? Living something that wasn’t true? That’s not true? Was she ever my friend? She was! I saw it. I felt it. I live in her apartment. Our apartment. I take the train to work with her, and then I sit next to her at work, and then I take the train home with her. Together. And then we go to Bubby’s and order pancakes if we feel like it. I’ve seen her cry. She’s seen me. Really seen me.”
She continued, “How long has she been carrying this secret? Am I so bad she was scared to tell me? And still is? But this secret is so …small. Who cares? She knows I wouldn’t, if she’d just told me. What was so bad about it that she’d lie to our attorney? Send him into meetings like the village idiot?”
The Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn “Call Her Daddy” drama will go down in history — so much so that Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy included it in his June 2026 memoir, Cancel Me If You Can. “The revelation of Alex and Sofia’s torpedoed friendship was almost more than the public could handle,” Portnoy wrote […]
Franklyn noted that she began to “think about every contract conversation we’ve ever had,” adding that she believed Cooper “wouldn’t do this” and “lie about something so stupid.”
“When did she start making more money?” she wrote. “Why wouldn’t she just tell me about it? Not just as a friend, but while we’re sitting in meetings and calls for six months fighting for fair pay. As CO-OWNERS. Why is she doing this? What is the truth?”
Franklyn wrote that she was “dropped into a panic attack,” noting that she felt like “there must be a reason” why Cooper “lied.” She went on to call Cooper’s best friend from high school, Muji, who allegedly said he “knew the whole time” about the pay.
“I feel like I need to purge the last two years of my life,” she wrote in her memoir. “I want to wash myself from the inside out. All of my memories are violated. Do I need to get my sight checked? What did I miss? It’s not just the last few months. There were secrets even at the peak of our friendship. I thought Muji would give me an answer to today, to our battle with Dave and where to go next. But I know now it goes even further back.”
She continued, “Is this who she is? I think about all the times I thought we were sisters, all the moments when it felt like the energy of the world could be generated from us ping-ponging off each other alone. Where did that girl go? Who am I without her? Muji ends the call by repeating that he saw it all coming and hangs up. I’m in shock. No moves left, besides throwing my phone at the wall as hard as I can.”
Cooper, for her part, told “Call Her Daddy” listeners in 2020 that she and Franklyn had signed a three-year deal with Barstool and made $75,000 their first year, $85,000 the second year and $100,000 the third. While they both received a raise during their first year because of the podcast’s performance, Cooper — who handled the production side — got an extra bump.
While Cooper initially signed an exclusive deal with Spotify following her Barstool exit, she has since signed a $125 million deal with SiriusXM. Franklyn, for her part, launched her “Sofia With an F” podcast in 2020 after leaving “Call Her Daddy” behind.
