Salma Hayek is soaking up every moment of being a grandmother.
“I was so ready and I’m loving it!” the Frida actress, 60, exclusively told Us at the Women In Film Honors event in Beverly Hills on Thursday, November 5. Hayek walked the red carpet at the event with her husband, François-Henri Pinault, by her side.
Hayek’s stepson, François Pinault Jr., welcomed his first baby with wife Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck over the summer.
“We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois’,” Hayek announced via Instagram in August.
“Although I will call him Panchito,” she continued. “He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more.”
Hayek included a video of herself speaking to the newborn in Spanish while holding him in her arms.
Days before Hayek introduced her grandson to the world, Henckel von Donnersmarck took to Instagram to announce that she and her husband had become parents.
“My husband (the world’s coolest françois) and our son (the world’s cutest françois) … our first month as parents🐣,” she wrote at the time.
Hayek previously gushed about becoming a grandma during an appearance on Today in September.
“I love it! I don’t know that it’s about being a grandma or just about him; how fantastic he is, and how easy he is, and how special and how much I connect with him — how much I miss him!” she said.
When host Laura Jarrett pointed out that a perk of being a grandparent is giving the baby back when they start crying, Hayek said this is actually one of her least favorite parts.
“Unfortunately, don’t think I’m happy about that,” she said. “I know that some grandparents say that. I wish I could just keep him in my house.”
Hayek married François-Henri, 64, in 2009 after three years of dating. In addition to becoming stepmom to his three kids — François, 38, Mathilde, 25, and Augustin, 19 — Hayek welcomed a daughter, Valentina, with her husband in September 2007.
“I had a child late in life,” Hayek told Red magazine in 2017, noting that she “identified” with her character in the 2015 film Tale of Tales, who had a “desperate desire to have a child and maybe feeling that you could never be happy or complete, that your life is not complete, without this.”
The Oscar winner added, “I’ve had that yearning, that longing, and that pain … I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to. My body, as a miracle, had one. The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”
