The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby is mourning her son, Robert Cosby Jr., after his tragic death.
“I’m going to miss you, Bubs ❤️🙏😢,” Mary, 53, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, February 28, sharing a throwback photo of the mother-son pair.
The Bravo personality added hashtags for “God First,” “Love” and “Forever,” and set her upload to Jessica Mauboy’s cover of “Time After Time.”
Us Weekly confirmed earlier this week that Robert died on Monday, February 23, after a suspected overdose. He was 23.
“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” Mary, who shared her only child with husband Robert Cosby Sr., said in a statement at the time. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
A cause of death has not been publicly revealed.
As Mary grieves her loss, many of her fellow Housewives have rallied around her and offered their condolences.
“Beautiful picture, Mary. You’re an amazing Mom and gave him so much love,” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mainstay Kyle Richards wrote via Instagram comment on Saturday. “May his memory be a blessing 🙏❤️.”
Chanel Ayan added, “He looks just like you. You will see him in you so much. He will always be with you. Love you, Mary, and God got you both ❤️.”
Heather Dubrow, Kandi Burruss, Whitney Rose, Lisa Barlow, Cynthia Bailey, Gretchen Rossi, Sheree Whitfield, Candiace Dillard-Bassett, Crystal Kung Minkoff and Shamea Morton also expressed their deepest sympathies to the Cosby family.
“We’re lifting you up in prayer and sending tons of love and hugs your way,” Real Housewives of Atlanta star Morton, 43, replied.
RHOBH personality Bozoma “Boz” St. John, for her part, offered a somber tribute of her own.
“It’s amazing that a certain photo can remain your favorite because of context … whatever you were saying or whatever you were doing when this photo was snapped is one that comes instantly rushing back when you see the photo,” St. John, 49, commented on Saturday. “I pray that the good memories will keep you uplifted.”
Housewives producer Andy Cohen shared his own emotional message to Mary and her family several hours earlier.
“I want to send all my love and heartfelt condolences to Mary Cosby and her family after news broke yesterday about the tragic passing of Mary’s son Robert Jr.,” Cohen, 57, said on the Thursday, February 26, broadcast of his Watch What Happens Live talk show. “My heart breaks for Mary. I will always appreciate getting a small window into the unconditional love between Mary and Robert Jr.”
Robert Cosby Jr.’s ex-wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, is mourning his unexpected death. “Alexiana knows he passed away. He continued, “Mary, you did such a good job. I know their bravery and their vulnerability in sharing their story has helped and will continue to help countless people who are struggling.”
Throughout Mary’s tenure on RHOSLC, she and Robert Jr. have been candid about his substance abuse struggles.
“That actually, truly shocked me,” Mary exclusively told Us in September 2025 of initially learning of her son’s addiction. “I immediately started blaming myself, because I thought, ‘You can’t judge him and his life and his choices.’ I don’t believe in judging people. I’m just not a judger. I don’t like judging people, and I don’t like to do it.”
