Revealed: Europe’s most beautiful new hotels

Prix Versailles has just named the world’s most beautiful hotels for 2026 – and seven are in Europe.

The architectural award, which began in 2015, releases annual lists of the very best designs in categories including hotels, restaurants, airports and train stations.

Sixteen hotels were chosen this year, each of which “fits perfectly into their local scene”.

“All the projects featured on the World’s Most Beautiful Hotels List for 2026 embrace a lifestyle based on enchantment and innovation, and fit perfectly into their local scene,” Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, said.

“They give us illuminating insight into what excellence looks like in the interior and exterior design of buildings.

“This allows them to deliver a positive form of hospitality, one that beautifies the built environment and fulfils travellers’ hopes and aspirations.

“These hotels, each endowed with its own amazing personality, provide a bright outlook and, in their own way, establish a welcome dialogue in today’s world of cultural globalisation.”

Here are all the most beautiful hotels in Europe for 2026.

Sir Prague – Prague, Czech Republic

Found near the Vltava River, Sir Prague has taken over a neo-renaissance building that dates back to 1884.

While many of the original features like the stone façades, iron railings and timber parquet floors have been restored, the interiors have been inspired by the legacy of Czech Cubism with its selection of vintage furniture.

“A meticulous restoration, combined with a splendid reinterpretation, have earned this

hotel a reputation for design,” Prix Versailles said of the property’s selection.

Chiemgauhof Lakeside Retreat – Übersee, Germany

Boasting panoramic views of Lake Chiemsee, Chiemgauhof Lakeside Retreat in Germany was chosen because its design blends “Bavarian heritage, modern hospitality, and a life in harmony with nature”.

Designed by Matteo Thun’s Milan-based studio, the building was inspired by the region’s barns, while the interiors make use of natural materials with Japanese touches.

La Fondation – Paris, France

Located in Paris’ 17th arrondissement, La Fondation was designed by PCA-Stream.

The new look makes use of the building’s original layout and materials while contrasting it with nature through green walls, terraces, patios and hanging gardens.

“A role model for quiet luxury off the beaten trail, this arty cocoon anticipates all the needs and expectations of a 5-star hotel. This Parisian mystery won’t stay a secret for long,” Prix Versailles noted.

Les Roches – Le Lavandou, France

Another option in France, seaside resort Les Roches is found in Le Lavandou.

Originally built in the 1930s, the property is meant to give off the impression of a ship floating on the water.

Across the hotel, you’ll find artworks from contemporary creatives which “has turned the hotel into its own little museum”.

Villa Dubrovnik – Dubrovnik, Croatia

Found within a protected heritage building, Villa Dubrovnik was originally designed by famed Croatian architect Mladen Frka in 1961.

Interiors were reimagined by Studio Arthur Casas, and feature materials like limestone, stucco, cotto and oak to create a natural colour palette.

Orient Express La Minerva – Rome, Italy

One of the biggest openings of the year, Orient Express La Minerva is found within a 17th century palazzo in the heart of Rome.

Architect Hugo Toro drew upon the world’s great railway lines for the décor, with Prix Versailles describing the property as “the epitome of timeless, understated luxury”.

Splendido, A Belmond Hotel – Portofino, Italy

Belmond’s Splendido reopened earlier this year following 18 months of restoration work.

Set within a former 16th century Benedictine monastery, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio’s work is “the perfect blend of Ligurian heritage and contemporary elegance”.

As part of the restoration, the former private summer residence Villa Beatrice, which was inspired by the Art Nouveau and Gothic Revival styles, has opened to the public for the first time.
