Rescue workers in Nepal were forced to use cable cars and ziplines to ferry stranded citizens across rivers after August’s deadly flood and mudslide wiped out local bridges.
Video shows teams of workers yanking ropes to ferry locals who were stranded on an embankment flanked by a flooded river. In one clip, a pair of people sit in a small box attached to a wire as they’re yanked onto a platform across a river in Nuwakot, Nepal.
The rescues come as both Nepal and neighboring China continue to deal with the aftermath of the Aug. 26 mudslide and ensuing floods in Tibet’s Gyirong Valley and the Nepal’s Trishuli River Valley.

As of Wednesday, at least 1,114 people have been confirmed dead and nearly 4,000 remain missing in Nepal. Chinese authorities report an additional 16 confirmed dead and at least 541 missing on their side of the border.
Rescuers are still working to search and rescue any potential survivors trapped in a hydropower tunnel in the Rasuwa district.

“In Rasuwagadhi, we think 46 people are trapped in a room-like structure in the tunnel,” Amshu Kiran Shahi, a board member of the Nepal Electricity Authority that operates the hydropower plant, told Reuters.
A senior official in President Donald Trump’s administration also told Fox News that an additional two Americans made it to safety in Nepal, marking 16 total Americans in the country who made their way to safety.

Seventy-five Americans in Nepal currently remain unaccounted for while no American casualties have been reported so far.
