REDONDO BEACH, Calif. () — The Redondo Beach pier was evacuated on Sunday due to police activity.
Details were limited, but police confirmed to Eyewitness News that the pier was evacuated around 10 a.m. due to “suspicious circumstances.”
“Law enforcement is actively investigating and securing the area,” said Redondo Beach Fire Department Public Information Officer Arnold Menjivar in a statement. “Our priority is life safety and incident stabilization. We ask the public to avoid the area. We will provide updates as soon as more information is confirmed.”

Police said Catalina Avenue between Torrance and Beryl was closed.
Meantime, the BeachLife Festival, a 3-day festival that kicked off on Friday and featured musical guests like Duran Duran, The Offspring and James Taylor, posted to Instagram, briefly delayed Sunday’s opening time.
“Per the direction of local safety officials, we have been given the go ahead to safely open doors momentarily,” read a statement posted on the festival’s Instagram account.
