Powerball jackpot climbs to $1 billion for Wednesday drawing

The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing has climbed to an estimated $1 billion.

Lottery officials say the jackpot is the eighth largest in the game’s history and the largest U.S. lottery jackpot offered this year.

The jackpot carries a cash option of $433.1 million.

It has been months since someone last won the grand prize. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to lottery officials.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
