CULVER CITY, Calif. () — Multiple pedestrians were struck Tuesday evening when a driver led police on a dangerous chase that ended in a crash at a Los Angeles McDonald’s drive-thru, authorities said.
The incident began around 7 p.m. when Culver City police officers started chasing a vehicle through Culver City and into Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department assisted in the pursuit.
Culver City Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza said four pedestrians were hit during the incident, but there could be additional victims. It remains unclear how many of the victims were hospitalized, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Atenza said the driver appeared to be intentionally trying to hit pedestrians.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed at a McDonald’s drive-thru, where officers took the driver into custody, police said. An officer was injured at the end of the chase but is in stable condition with injuries that are not life-threatening, Atenza said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
During the pursuit, Atenza said the driver ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road. She added that the suspect was possibly armed with a knife and that the vehicle had been involved in a carjacking.
An investigation is ongoing.
