PACIFIC PALISADES, LOS ANGELES () — One year after the Palisades Fire, communities gathered for tributes and commemorations as they mourn those who were lost and move forward on the road to recovery.
One of the many events scheduled for Wednesday was a White Glove Flag Presentation and Remembrance Ceremony hosted by the Palisades American Legion Post 238 and Pacific Palisades Long Term Recovery Group.
The somber program honored the 12 lives that were lost in the blaze, as well as saluting the courage of first responders and volunteers.
The family members of those who died sat in the front row and were given a white rose and American flag.
Organizers said this year has been devoted to turning grief into action and finding pathways to long-term recovery.
“What this fire didn’t take from the Pacific Palisades is your community spirit. It didn’t take your togetherness, it didn’t take your resolve, and it didn’t take your will to fight for each other. That fire is still on,” Councilwoman Traci Park said during the ceremony.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered elsewhere in Pacific Palisades to mark the past year and protest the handling of the Palisades and Eaton fires. AIR7 was over the gathering.
“They Let Us Burn” is a community protest that organizers said is devoted to demanding answers, accountability and action.
Protesters planned to share their stories and provide their list of demands to leadership.
