NYC is getting its first of a hugely popular Japanese restaurant chain

Sushi lovers are conveying excitement.

A top-selling Japanese restaurant is opening its first American location in New York City.

Sushiro — a popular conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Japan — will open in Times Square this fall at 667 8th Avenue at West 42nd Street, next to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The first permanent US location will be a 9,000 square foot, three-story flagship location.

The first two floor of the restaurant will feature Sushiro’s signature conveyor-belt dining with 150 seats, and on the cellar level will be private dining options with an intimate sushi bar experience.

The new restaurant will take up three floors of the space in Times Square that was formerly a McDonald’s.

Sushiro is the largest dine-in sushi restaurant chain in the world, with more than 800 locations globally.

The brand is well-known for its high-quality, affordable sushi and Japanese food in a fast-paced setting with a conveyor belt.

Sushiro’s menu features over 100 dishes, with what it says is affordably priced sushi, ramen, somen, steamed egg custard and more.

Desserts will feature catalana, a Spanish custard dessert similar to crème brûlée; warabimochi, a traditional Japanese mochi typically coated in flour and drizzled with brown sugar syrup; and sherbert.

People seated in the booths on the first two floors will order their food through digital kiosks, then go pick up their dishes and drinks on the conveyor belt that goes through the kitchen to the dining room.

There have been Sushiro pop-ups in America over the past couple of years, a tease to their permanent American debut.

Sushiro was founded in Osaka in 1984 and was built on the mission of making great sushi accessible to everyone.
