New EV models arrive in 2026 amid shifting electric vehicle market

New EV models arrive in 2026 amid shifting electric vehicle market

LOS ANGELES () — It’s been a major reset in the EV world lately, a big change from long-term plans made a few years ago.

Several electric vehicles that were to debut in the coming months and years have been canceled. Other models that did reach the market have been abruptly discontinued in recent months, like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Acura ZDX and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

But some auto brands are pressing forward and expanding their electric offerings, starting with Subaru. Behold their largest EV yet, the three-row 2027 Getaway.

“We have a lot of customers that are very interested in EVs, and that sets us apart from some of our competitors. They wanted a three-row vehicle, they wanted something practical and safe and also electric,” said Garrick Goh, planning manager at Subaru of America.

Like Subaru’s existing EV models, the Getaway was co-developed with Toyota and shares a platform and major components with the upcoming all-electric 2027 Toyota Highlander.

From a new biggest EV at Subaru, to a new smallest one at Mercedes-Benz, the CLA 250+. You may know CLA as their traditional entry-level sedan, but say hello to their new entry-level electric sedan. Priced starting at under $50,000, it delivers an amazing estimated range of over 370 miles.

It’s stylish and drives and rides very well. This could be something to lure many into their first Mercedes-Benz, as well as their first electric car. One handy feature: dual charging ports side-by-side, allowing use of any kind of public charging station.

For those who crave all-wheel drive and more power, there’s also the CLA 350 4MATIC with dual motors, though it’s more expensive and has less range.

And then there’s Porsche. That brand has been shuffling its EV deck recently, dialing back plans, but also moving ahead cautiously with new offerings. The Cayenne Electric arrives this summer, and in the meantime, a new variant of the Macan: the GTS Electric, with a base price of $107,650.

Like other Porsche models that offer a GTS variant, pricing and performance slot this one into the upper-middle of the Macan lineup, above the Macan 4S and below the Macan Turbo electric models.

The Macan GTS Electric is very quick, thanks to well over 500 horsepower (563 during certain conditions for short bursts). Porsche claims this EV can reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, and will run the quarter mile in an even 12 seconds. The EPA estimated battery range is 294 miles, but the 800-volt system allows for super-quick DC charging capability: from 10-80% in as little as 21 minutes under ideal conditions with a suitable fast charger.

So is the electric vehicle alive and well? In some ways, yes. But the industry as a whole is moving forward more cautiously than previously planned, and the winds of change keep shifting. New models are still arriving, but at a much more measured rate than had been forecast previously.
