New dating app by former Tinder exec lets complete strangers play Cupid with your love life

New dating app by former Tinder exec lets complete strangers play Cupid with your love life

Feel like playing Cupid? There’s an app for that.

A new dating app called Rivet claims the solution to dating app fatigue is to stop swiping yourself — and let other people on the platform try to match you instead.

The app comes as singles ditch established options like Tinder and Bumble in droves, turning to in-person meet-ups and even husband applications instead.

Wannabe Yentas can sign up as a Rivet “matcher” on the app, essentially gamifying the dating process by weighing in on potential Romeos and Juliets. (Or Tonys and Marias if you’re on the West Side.)

The new dating app Rivet, designed by former Tinder executive Taru Kapoor, invites users to play matchmaker. Rivet

Once users download the app and sign up as a matcher, they’re given data on a nameless potential couple, including core personality traits, relationship intentions, out-of-work interests and physical preferences.

Next, matchers get an AI-generated picture of the pair designed to show off their aesthetic compatibility (or lack thereof).

Then it’s time to cast a vote: Could these potential lovebirds catch feelings IRL?

Matchers click a pink heart for yes or a silver “X” for no. As the votes rack up, the potential couple gets a “Social Matching” score meant to encourage the lovelorn strangers to start a chat.

On the flip side, single Rivet users can see their potential partner’s name, the percentage of Rivet matchers who voted “yes” on the pairing, and a brief, bot-like explanation of the groupthink.

(One NY Post employee was told, “You’re both witty and love exploring new spots, and his sharp memory for quotes will keep you laughing,” when testing the app.)

But no matter how much the public wants the maybe-couple to hook up, ultimately the daters themselves are the “final boss” of the game, choosing to accept or reject an IRL date.

Matchers vote on potential pairings in the app, resulting in a Social Matching score. Rivet

Former Tinder exec Taru Kapoor serves as Rivet’s Chief Executive Officer. She told The Post that over the last decade, “the apps have turned [finding someone] into a lonely search” that often goes nowhere.

Kapoor believes she’s discovered the industry’s most grave mistake — “[removing] the people” who can help a relationship blossom from a third-party POV, including matches that a single person may not initially consider for themselves.

“Many of us have spotted our friend being in a relationship that’s clearly wrong for them way before they knew themselves — or have seen the potential with someone they are overlooking,” she explained. “Other people around you often know what brings out the best in you, and the difference between what you say you want [versus] what actually makes you happy.”

Rivet is not the first modern matchmaking app — last year, reality star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel launched The Core, an invite-only forum that utilized peer-based matchmaking.

Kapoor hopes that Rivet will bring love to the masses. Rivet

But Kapoor hopes that her new enterprise will bring Cupid’s joy to the masses — and let those who are already coupled up swipe through a dating app as more than creepy voyeurs.

“Helping two people find each other, even when you don’t know them, can be surprisingly joyful,” said Kapoor. “Matchers win when two people actually match, which is what single daters want instead of endless swiping. It’s a win-win.”
