Murder Suspect Tried Escaping Police Custody By Climbing Into Ceiling of Interrogation Room

After more than one year on the run, a murder suspect from Delaware tried to escape police custody by climbing into the ceiling of the interrogation room during questioning.

Shawn Wooten was arrested on Tuesday, March 17, for the November 2024 murder of 42-year-old Amie Bradley, according to a press release shared by the Delaware State Police.

Wooten, 24, was identified as a person of interest in the case during an “extensive investigation,” according to investigators. Authorities came to believe that Wooten strangled and attempted to sexually assault Bradley before her death.

Following the murder, he allegedly fled Delaware, making it difficult for detectives to find him. However, an indictment was returned the day before Wooten was arrested and state police were then able to take him into custody.

Soon after his arrest, Wooten was brought to a Delaware State Police interview room to speak with authorities. However, he reportedly tried to get away by climbing through the ceiling during a break.

Delaware State Police said that troopers swarmed the room and deployed a Taser in order to stop Wooten from his attempted escape, according to the outlet.

A large police presence then reported to the exterior of the Troop 2 barracks in Glasgow, Delaware, in response to the attempted escape.

Wooten is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $2,060,000 cash bond, according to the press release.

He has been charged with two counts of murder in the first-degree and attempted rape second-degree in connection to Bradley’s death. Additionally, police said that he is expected to also be charged for the attempted escape.

It is not currently clear if Wooten has entered a plea or retained legal representation following his arrest. The New Castle County Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding the case.
