Miranda Kerr is sharing a candid insight into how tough her split from Orlando Bloom was for her mental health.
Speaking on “The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show” podcast on Thursday, September 24, Kerr, 43, explained how going through the divorce was one of her toughest challenges. (Kerr and Bloom married in July 2010 and welcomed their son Flynn in January 2011. The pair announced their separation in October 2013.)
“Obviously my public divorce, separation with Orlando, that was something that was another challenging time,” Kerr explained to host Jessica Rowe, adding, “After we separated, I went through a little bit of like, depression.”
The Victoria’s Secret model continued, “And it was so odd for me because I’m a naturally joyful person. And like my mother would call me Giggly Gertrude. Like that was my name, my nickname as a kid because it was always very joyful and giggly.”
Kerr shared why it felt so emotionally difficult for her marriage to Bloom, 49, to fall apart at the time.
“Going through… the thought of being with someone and then having your life together and then that not being the case is something, you know, it was very challenging for me, but I knew that it was the right decision and we remained super friendly and close throughout it all and have put the needs of Flynn first before our own needs. And I feel like we’ve done really well at that. “
The Kora Organics founder said she hoped that she and Bloom can be a good example for other parents who are grappling with coparenting after calling it quits. “We can hopefully encourage other people to do the same and to put the children first and not your own hurt,” she said.

To help heal and move on from her relationship breakdown, Kerr noted that she embraced meditation and yoga and turned inwards.
“This is a decision that we both mutually agreed was good for us. I understand logistically, but my body isn’t catching up to my mind that understands, right?” Kerr explained. “So there was some kind of disconnect that was happening and I and I just felt like I wasn’t the best version of myself.”
She continued, “I felt like my body had to move through the waves of feelings that would come up out of nowhere and it was processing and it was really just me giving myself the time to process and instead of trying to fix it like automatically, it was time to feel the feelings.”

Kerr added that learning to “forgive” was a crucial step for her to let go and ultimately “freed” her.
“It was time to forgive and release. It was time to be patient with myself and not feel like I had to have it all together and had to have it all perfect because I didn’t,” she said.
Kerr noted that another thing that helped her was “being truthful with yourself and saying, you know what, this is hard and I’m having a hard time and I don’t really know the way out, but I’m just going to take it day by day and try.”
Since their divorce, Bloom and Kerr have both had other relationships. Kerr married Evan Spiegel in May 2017. They share three sons together: Hart, 8, Myles, 6, and Pierre, 2. Bloom shares daughter Daisy, 5, with his ex, Katy Perry.
