Miami Music Project Elevates Community Voices on its Board of Trustees

Miami Music Project takes active steps to leverage social impact by addressing traditional participation gaps at the highest tier of decision-making, its Board of Trustees, by inviting two new members: community parent representative Olga Hurtado and seasoned business strategist Michael Hoyos.

“A community-centric organizational model where our students are placed at the very top of our priorities is at the core of Miami Music Project,” said Anna Klimala, President and CEO of Miami Music Project. “Our newest board members represent two different expressions to our community-led approach. We are proud to induct Olga Hurtado, mother of two longtime violin students, Antonella and Isabella, as the parent representative on our Board of Trustees to help us build stronger community relationships, increase accountability to our beneficiaries, and elevate the voices of our families. We are also delighted to welcome Michael Hoyos, who not only models a new generation of business leadership, but has demonstrated philanthropic leadership in his successful influence and advocacy for Miami Music Project during last year’s Give Miami Day.”

Olga Hurtado, a Miami-based entrepreneur and proud mother of Miami Music Project violin students Antonella and Isabella, is a Colombian-born accounting professional and Founder & CEO of NeatBooks LLC, a bilingual financial advisory firm serving small businesses. With more than two decades of experience in finance and a deep personal commitment to education as a pathway to opportunity, Hurtado discovered Miami Music Project and immediately recognized its transformative power:

“As a parent, I have seen firsthand how the Miami Music Project transforms children’s lives through music, discipline, and community,” said Olga. “This organization gave my daughters a sense of belonging and purpose, and I am honored to give back by helping strengthen parent involvement, because when families are engaged, the impact of the program goes far beyond music.”

Michael Hoyos joins Miami Music Project’s Board of Trustees through a Board Matching initiative led by The Miami Foundation in collaboration with PhilanthropyMiami, designed to connect mission-driven leaders with nonprofit organizations seeking to strengthen their governance and community impact. Initiatives like this demonstrate the power of cross-sector collaboration, bringing together philanthropy, civic leadership, and nonprofits such as Miami Music Project to expand community impact. Hoyos is a seasoned business strategist and co-founder of Faraday Special Investments, a South Florida–based private investment firm focused on funding innovative solutions to core human challenges. He is also the founder of Overview Labs, where he collaborates with startups, nonprofits, and academic institutions to advance innovation in mental healthcare. With a background spanning private equity, consulting, and social impact, including prior work at McKinsey & Company, he brings expertise in strategic planning, governance, and organizational growth. Deeply committed to expanding access to arts and education for underserved communities, his passion for youth opportunity and community empowerment aligns closely with Miami Music Project’s mission to use music as a catalyst for social transformation.

“I grew up in the communities that Miami Music Project serves and saw firsthand how arts and music education were often less visible, less prioritized, or simply crowded out by more immediate needs. Miami Music Project fills that gap by providing free, high-quality music education while building confidence, discipline, and creative thinking skills that serve students throughout their lives. I’m honored to support that work as a Trustee and to help ensure access and opportunity aren’t limited by circumstance.”

About Miami Music Project
Miami Music Project is an award-winning nonprofit that uses music as a tool for social change, empowering youth from underserved communities through free, high-quality music education and impacting over 33,000 students since 2008. Students receive daily after-school instruction, mentorship, college-preparation training, and leadership development opportunities. A recognized national model, Miami Music Project collaborates with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Children’s Trust, Florida International University, and a broad network of local and national partners in the arts, education, and social services.
