A massive display dubbed “Grimothy” has been erected on Bainbridge Island, Washington, after deformed racoon “Jimothy” terrorized Seattle.
Cartoonist and New York Times bestselling author Matthew Inman, aka “The Oatmeal,” and his brother Bryce welded and wired the massive Halloween installation.
“Behold: Grimothy is here, the Jim Reaper, Dark Lord and Father of Jimothy,” Matthew wrote in an Instagram post. To contrast with the cute “Jimothy,” the brothers fitted Grimothy with menacing bright-red eyes and made its tongue bloody red.
Matthew said that the installation has become a local attraction in the area and people are lining up to get a look at “Grimothy.”
“Last night (Saturday) at around 9:30 p.m., there was still a line of cars outside the house. We realized we’d turned the front yard into an all-hours tourist attraction,” he told The Stranger.
The process of creating the massive decorative piece wasn’t easy. Getting the main ring structure welded together was tough, said Bryce Inman.
“Because some steel rods are small and anything more than a tiny spot weld burns through and cuts the piece in half. So, if I made one small mistake, Jimothy would implode on top of me,” Bryce Inman told The Stranger.
The stubby critter, dubbed “Jimothy” by locals, became an internet sensation after Seattle residents shared videos of him traversing backyards and balconies in the Emerald City.
In August, baseball fans at T-Mobile Park celebrated “Jimothy” at the M’s game against the Tigers — and those who purchased tickets with a special promotional offer were given Jimothy shirts.
The first 20,000 fans at the game received Jimothy trading cards with his stats, including his hometown of Ballard and his throwing hand, “all fours.”
A 13-year-old girl, Abby, received the one-of-a-kind Seattle Mariners “Jimothy” raccoon card. Oliver Moy, Florida-born social media influencer and founder of the Asian American boy band North Star Boys, dropped $20,100 for the rare card at an online auction.
