Who would have thought a simple delivery mix-up could turn an intimate family milestone into a global viral sensation?
Content creator Nick Wilkins was understandably disappointed when his birthday cake failed to show up.
Instead, his delivery driver handed him a custom gender-reveal cake meant for a couple named Sam and Melissa.
With no way to send it back, Nick did the only logical thing a creator could do: he hosted the gender reveal himself on TikTok.
“I got a gender reveal cake for Sam and Melissa,” Nick told his viewers. “And I can’t return the cake, because you can’t return food.”
After a quick apology to the oblivious parents-to-be, Nick got to work dissecting the dessert.
“There’s supposed to be a baby shaker in the middle of it,” he explained, hunting for the hidden clue. “And if it’s blue, obviously a boy. And if it’s pink, a girl. And if it’s twins, it’s yellow. Oh, I hear it.”
As Nick pulled the cake apart, he couldn’t help but roast the couple’s bakery order. “Why did you get Red Velvet? Melissa, we all know double chocolate is better.”
The big reveal
By this point, millions of viewers were completely invested. Digging into the center, Nick finally found the hidden surprise.
“It’s yellow. Y’all got twins! It came with a card… It’s two boys. Uh, so good luck to y’all.”
Just like that, the news was out: twin boys were on the way for Melissa and Sam—and the couple didn’t even know it yet. Feeling an instant bond with the strangers, Nick immediately pitched himself for a role in the kids’ lives.
“Can I be, like, the step-uncle or something? I feel like I’m part of the family now. I could be, like, the babysitter.”

At first, the leads were dead ends.
“OMG I’m actually so sad and happy right now! Thank you so much for posting this, I’m so shocked right now!” wrote one hopeful Melissa. However, like Cinderella’s glass slipper, the shoe didn’t fit.
“Sir, why do you have my and my wife’s cake?” a Sam commented, but internet sleuths were quick to debunk him.
Found at last!
It took a few days of intense digital detective work, but a comment finally popped up on Nick’s YouTube page that changed everything. The real Melissa had entered the chat.
“No way! Nick Wilkins, thank you for telling us our baby’s gender,” she wrote. “I’m sorry that our cake got sent to you. We messaged the shop and are overjoyed to expect two baby boys! And yes, you can be their step-uncle!”
A glance at her profile confirmed she was the real deal. Describing herself as a “fun wife and mum who loves baking,” she confirmed on her page that she shares a 4-year-old with her husband, Samuel Samson, and now, twin boys are officially on the way.
The mystery of the twins is finally solved. The only question left unanswered? Did Melissa and Sam ever get to eat Nick’s birthday cake?
