ANAHEIM, Calif. () — A Southern California mother is pleading for help to find her teenage daughter who has been missing since Halloween.
Jade Duran was last seen leaving her father’s home in Panorama City on Oct. 31 and hasn’t been heard from since.
Her mother, Erica Pinilla, has been handing out flyers and retracing her daughter’s steps.
“Not knowing whether or not she’s OK is very hard,” Pinilla said.
Pinilla said Jade, who was staying with her father, snuck out around 11:30 p.m. to go to a Halloween party her parents forbid her from attending. Within the first week of her disappearance, Pinilla said Jade’s phone was dumped, sold and ended up out of state.
Pinilla says the group that invited her to the party were adults who Jade met while taking the public bus to Kennedy High School in Orange County. She found Jade with that same group at Schweitzer Park in Anaheim the day before she went missing.
Pinilla returned to the park Wednesday – a day that should have been filled with celebration since it’s Jade’s 15th birthday.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is helping Pinilla in the search.
A case manager, who asked not to be identified, joined the family at the park as the search for Jade continues.
“She is in danger,” the case manager said. “What we’re doing today is trying to not only raise public awareness of this but trying to generate leads and tips.”
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating Jade’s disappearance. Police said she was last seen with Carlos Yanez Robledo, an adult they believe is homeless. They do not consider him a suspect or person of interest but want to speak with him.
Pinilla is refusing to give up until her daughter comes home.
“It breaks my heart; it makes me sick to my stomach,” she said. “What brings me comfort is just knowing that I’m out here looking for her every day.”
Jade is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants and carrying a pink backpack, according to LAPD.
