ANAHEIM, Calif. () — Welcome to La Casa Garcia, serving Mexican food in the city of Anaheim since 1973.
A 10-minute drive from Disneyland, this restaurant is a beloved gathering spot in the Orange County community.
“This is our favorite place to go,” customer Ken Kurtz said. “Just great people.”
“Frank (Garcia) is an icon in the community and here in Anaheim,” Norma Kurtz added. “Much loved, much loved.”
He’s the head of house Garcia.
“The food is good, my service is good,” Garcia said. “And we take care of the people.”
Hitchhiking from Texas to SoCal as a teenager, Garcia worked as a dishwasher and dreamed of opening his own restaurant.
“My wife and me worked real hard, day and nights, seven days a week, open and closed,” Garcia said.
He purchased his space more than five decades ago, and it’s expanded in size again and again.
Today, customers come in daily for the sizzling hot fajitas, the tamales and a burrito so big, one weighs in at 10 pounds.
And the menudo?
“I also love the menudo, and he said that was your best seller,” 7’s Rachel Brown said.
“Number one in the world,” Garcia replied.
You’ll notice photos of veterans cover the walls. Giving back to them, and local families in need is a mission important to the Garcia family.
“I believe that if you make money, you have to give some part back to the community,” Garcia said. “They’re my friends, my family, because people, my family are mine.”
Look out for daily specials all under $20, and weekday happy hour from 3-6 p.m.
La Casa Garcia is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The restaurant is at 531 W Chapman Ave, in Anaheim.
