Following her third split from Chase Stokes, Kelsea Ballerini supported a social media post that discussed shady relationship behavior.
Ballerini, 32, commented on an Instagram video shared by fellow country musician Ashley Cooke on Tuesday, February 10, that featured the text, “Whiskey nights wandering eyes make messes / hiding phones “idks” make questions / towns talk and the truth starts spreading / don’t you know crossing lines makes Xs.”
Ballerini’s comment read, “Mmmhhhmmm,” to which Cooke, 28, responded, “You get it.”
The online exchange comes just days after Us Weekly confirmed that Ballerini and the Outer Banks stars, 33, had ended their on-off romance once again. “Kelsea and Chase have broken up again. It happened just the other day,” a source exclusively told Us on Friday, February 6, adding that Ballerini is “taking it better” than she took the pair’s previous breakups.
The insider added that Stokes “still isn’t ready to give up” on the relationship, however Ballerini was officially “done.”
The confirmation came after fans of the pair noticed on Friday that Ballerini had unfollowed Stokes on Instagram despite him still following her.
The duo had reconciled for just 37 days following their second breakup, announcing on New Year’s Eve in 2025 that they’d rekindled their romance.
Ballerini posted an Instagram photo of the pair kissing and added the caption, “Messy year for the heart, messy year for the outside coming in, messy year for the way it became an out of our hands portrayal of it. But what I’ll say, and all I really care to share indefinitely with my personal life anymore, is that I really love love. I believe in it, I believe in him, and I believe in breaking patterns. Now go kiss your person and stop speculating.”
For his part, Stokes reflected on the reboot via his own Instagram account at the time. “Something I’ve learned this year: don’t take advantage of the most beautiful things that in 33 years of life are fleeting,” he wrote. “Take accountability, learn from mistakes. Lean into love and say it often. 2026 my year of growth, my year of truth. Starting here, starting now. Happy new years.”
Stokes and Ballerini’s first breakup occurred in September 2025 after they dated for more than two years, and the second happened in November 2025 after they got back together one month prior.
Us Weekly reported on Monday, February 9, that the pair could never regain the spark they originally shared. “Ever since they split the first few times, the dynamic totally shifted and it was never the same,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “Something felt a little more off this time around, almost like they were forcing things again.”
The insider added that Stokes and Ballerini “never really got back to how it was in the beginning” before elaborating further.
“Kelsea’s career has been more demanding recently, and had caused distance, which was an issue at one point,” the source said. “The allure and excitement of the relationship wore off and there were also too many ongoing trust issues that Kelsea can’t get past. She didn’t fully trust him, which sucked.”
Ballerini was said to have been the person to have ended the relationship this time around. “It wasn’t dramatic, just felt like she knew this wasn’t forever and didn’t want to waste their time,” the insider detailed.
