Kate Hudson’s ex Chris Robinson made a rare comment about their son Ryder Robinson’s career ambitions.
The rocker, 59, hinted that Ryder, 22, plans to follow in his mom’s footsteps rather than his dad’s after graduating from college. (Robinson is the lead singer of The Black Crowes.)
“He’s his own young man, so there’s that. Very proud of him. I imagine he’s going to lean a little more towards the handsome leading man time in his life and not so much the freaky, gratuitous, bohemian rock-and-roll part of his other family,” Robinson quipped in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15.
He added, “There’s a lot of life ahead of him. Just very proud of him.”
Robinson and Hudson, 46, were married from 2000 to 2007. Hudson also shares son Bingham, 14, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, the frontman of Muse, and daughter Rani, 7, with current fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
Hudson was nominated for Best Actress at Sunday’s Oscars for her role in Song Sung Blue and was later joined by Ryder on the red carpet at the 2026 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ryder gushed over his mom’s Oscar nomination and shared his own plans to make a mark on Hollywood.
“I’m trying my best. I want to step into the business. I have big shoes to fill,” Ryder said.

Hudson previously opened up about her relationship with Robinson during a 2024 interview on The Howard Stern Show, recalling that she was just 21 when they wed.
“My relationship with Chris was so beautiful and there was so much love there, but I really did grow out of it, and it was a very hard breakup,” Hudson told Howard Stern. “That was not an easy breakup. I was very in love with him, but it wasn’t going to be the rest of my life.”
“I was like a baby,” Hudson continued. “When my life really started to really take off and I wanted to go in different directions, we literally just weren’t in the same space to keep going.”
Hudson described her ex-husband as “brilliant” and “really funny” but said that he desired to live “as a nomad and an artist,” which “can be hard for relationships.”
That same year, Robinson acknowledged in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald that his marriage to Hudson “was over before our son Ryder was 2 years old.”
“I am not afraid of the realities that befall all of us when things go wrong, and I take a lot of pride in being responsible as a parent,” he said.
