‘Jerry Springer Show’ Employees Recall Threats, Sexual Harassment in New Doc: Biggest Revelations

Investigation Discovery’s documentary episode about The Jerry Springer Show featured new allegations about physical threats, sexual harassment, KKK guests and more.

The Jerry Springer Show, which aired from 1991 to 2018, started as a traditional talk show but was reformatted due to low ratings. It became infamous for its new structure, tackling topics such as incest and adultery while encouraging profanity, nudity and physical fights.

The newest season of Hollywood Demons, which returns April 20 at 9:00 pm ET, revisits cultural touchstones such as The Jerry Springer Show, Saved by the Bell and 16 and Pregnant.

“This second season also explores broader patterns, from child stars whose early success propelled them into shocking adult trajectories, to a harrowing look at the so-called ‘celebrity doctors’ whose actions are implicated in the tragic overdoses of stars like Matthew Perry and Prince,” the official synopsis reads.

While Hollywood may appear to be all glitz and glam on the surface, the industry has seen its fair share of scandals through the years. The New York Times and the New Yorker first published investigative pieces in 2017 that accused disgruntled movie producer Harvey Weinstein of decades of sexual assault and harassment. Soon after, Weinstein stood trial and was […]

Hollywood Demons isn’t the first doc to tackle the dark side of The Jerry Springer Show. Netflix’s Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action premiered in January 2025 as a two-part docuseries that pulled back the curtain on America’s most controversial talk show by exposing its biggest scandals on and off screen. While each doc addressed different topics, there was some overlap — including guest Nancy Campbell-Panitz‘s brutal murder at the hands of ex-husband Ralf Panitz following their appearance on the talk show.

Jerry Springer, who was featured prominently in Investigation Discovery’s doc via footage from an unaired interview, died in 2023 at the age of 79 from pancreatic cancer. Keep scrolling for the biggest revelations from the documentary:

KKK Leader August Kreis’ Daughter Calls Out Being Exploited

In the docuseries, Jennifer Kreis, the daughter of neo-Nazi leader August Kreis, accused the show of exploiting her and her family by giving her father a platform for supporting the white supremacy movement.

August and his two daughters appeared on The Jerry Springer Show in 1993 to address the family’s history with racism. The Kreises returned in 1995, but Jerry Springer kicked August out for making threats, claiming that Springer’s mother had been murdered and more heinous commentary.

Jennifer, who made it very clear her current views don’t reflect her past racist comments, slammed the show for bringing them on numerous times to share their dangerous agenda. While reflecting on her childhood, Jennifer claimed she was being abused by her father when they were brought onto The Jerry Springer Show, where she was allegedly coached on what to say on camera.

August, for his part, was arrested in 2014 on six counts of sexual abuse of children. He was found guilty of one count of criminal sexual conduct involving a minor child and two counts of committing lewd acts on a child. In 2015, a South Carolina judge sentenced August to 50 years in prison for child molestation — two 15-year sentences and one 20-year sentence, which would run consecutively.

Jennifer revealed in the doc that her father died behind bars in 2025. They were no longer in contact as Jennifer rebuked her father’s views.

Physical Threats, Sexual Harassment and More Issues Behind the Scenes

While some former employees appeared in the doc, it was pointed out that most women wouldn’t speak out about their time working on The Jerry Springer Show. The documentary included claims about employees being threatened with a bat, someone being duct-taped to a chair, sexual harassment taking place daily on set and female employees being encouraged to put up with outrageous requests in order to keep their jobs.

Former executive producer Richard Dominick declined to address the claims made in the doc.

Guests Feeling Taken Advantage of by ‘The Jerry Springer Show’

Multiple former guests sat down to address the challenges they allegedly faced before appearing on the show. All of them blamed producers and the show for using their trauma as inspiration for the show — with one guest claiming she was only paid $100 to appear. (Some employees in the doc claimed they weren’t allowed to offer any money to guests.)

From the murder of Gabby Petito to the Rust tragedy, many true crime documentaries are coming our way in 2025. Hulu announced in February the release of Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna, which comes two years after actor Alec Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023 following cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ […]

True Crime Cases Linked to ‘The Jerry Springer Show’

Hollywood Demons made reference to several guests who were either arrested after their time on the show or who were too traumatized by the experience to appear. There was mention of a 1999 case where a 15-year-old boy in Florida told police that he and his 13-year-old brother sexually abused their 8-year-old half-sister after watching an incest-themed episode of The Jerry Springer Show.

There was an episode in 2000 where guest Nancy Campbell-Panitz was confronted by ex-husband Ralf Panitz and his wife, Eleanor Panitz. After an onscreen confrontation with Eleanor and Ralf, Nancy left the show. She briefly reconciled with Ralf before being granted a restraining order against him in July 2000. The same day as the court hearing — and the airing of their Jerry Springer episode — Nancy was found murdered in her home.

Ralf received a life sentence after he was found guilty of second degree-murder. Springer and producers associated with the show denied that their talk show contributed to Nancy’s death.

The Jerry Springer Show continued to air new episodes until 2018. Before his death, Jerry Springer reflected on his show’s complicated legacy.

“I just apologize. I’m so sorry. What have I done? I’ve ruined the culture,” he said during a November 2022 appearance on the “Behind the Velvet Rope” podcast, adding, “I just hope hell isn’t that hot, because I burn real easy. I’m very light-complected.”
