Flower District crash: Teen’s parents describe recovery after he was struck by SUV on downtown LA sidewalk

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES () — A 14-year-old boy faces a long road to recovery after he and others were struck by an SUV in downtown Los Angeles.

Yumaira and David Muro have been with their son, Ethan, at Los Angeles General Medical Center since Tuesday when the SUV jumped the curb in the Flower District.

“Ethan’s doing great. He got out of surgery yesterday,” Yumaira Muro told Eyewitness News on Friday.

The crash happened just before noon when the vehicle struck the Muros while they were on the sidewalk.

Los Angeles firefighters treated six people. Ethan was rushed to a hospital.

“We’re blessed that we still have our son. We’re blessed that we can still hold him, kiss him and talk to him,” David Muro said. “Starting with that, obviously we understand there’s a long road of recovery here.”

The Muros say Ethan loves playing baseball. They shared it could be at least four to six months before their son can resume playing again.

The Muros say they’re ready to help Ethan start his long road to recovery.

“At home it’s going to be a whole different plan,” Yumaira said. “We’re going to be the nurses, we’re going to be the ones showering him, making him comfortable.”

Yumaira and David hope they can take their son home sometime this weekend.
