That can’t be real.
Trying to pull a fast one on a customer, a food delivery driver took things a little too far with using AI.
Oftentimes, when DoorDash workers drop off a food delivery, they’ll snap a picture of it to show proof that the order went to its rightful owner.
Well, one sneaky driver clearly wanted to make the money without actually doing any work, or so it seems. Soon after accepting a delivery order, the employee notified the customer that their food had been dropped off — yet, the proof of delivery seemed to be an AI-generated photo.
The unlucky victim of this scam was Byrne Hobart, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to share this bizarre experience.
Above a photo of his actual front door versus the fake one the driver texted a picture of, Hobart wrote: “Amazing. DoorDash driver accepted the drive, immediately marked it as delivered, and submitted an AI-generated image of a DoorDash order (left) at our front door (right).”
Honestly, the AI image is impressive, but this encounter isn’t something any hungry customer wants to ever experience when they’re counting the minutes until their food is delivered.
Thankfully, according to Hobart, DoorDash did the right thing by him.
In the thread of his original post, which received over 9 million views, Hobart wrote, “DoorDash of course promptly dispatched a replacement at no cost… all fixed,” along with a photo of his food bag and an actual human’s hand on top.
The internet sure got a kick out of this one.
“So the driver did this for 1 poke bowl?”
“Lucky you, I’ve fought days long battles against uber eats for less.”
“Is it even worth it? They’re gonna get banned for this, no?”
And for those thinking Hobart’s post is fake, he reassured the haters by humorously posting a “FAQ” thread explaining that this indeed happened to him.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time a delivery driver has been caught doing something unfathomable.
Earlier this month, a DoorDash driver was caught on camera dropping a chicken wing onto the concrete before picking it up and shoving it back into its takeout container.
Thankfully, the Florida customer, Trena Brown, had a Ring camera that caught this sneaky worker, or she would’ve never known.
“If he can’t deliver food with due care, then maybe there’s something else out there for him to do. Secondly, on DoorDash’s behalf, I’m not really sure what the training is, but maybe it’s time to bring the drivers in or require them to have some type of training,” Brown told WJXT.
