Disneyland attraction destroyed by fire finally being rebuilt

Disneyland has reportedly been granted a permit to reconstruct a beloved, historic piece of New Orleans Square that was tragically scorched by a fire more than three years ago.

The path has now been cleared for the theme park to resurrect the New Orleans Square train station “radio house” as a 357-square-foot structure.

The original building caught on fire during a busy holiday season in December of 2022, when an after-hours fire broke out at the station. The charred ruins stood untouched and hidden behind scaffolding until it was finally leveled in 2025.

While nobody was hurt, the blaze gutted the small structure, which served as an employee break room.

The reconstruction won’t be as flashy as a new attraction or themed land, but Disney fans have welcomed the move as an effort to preserve the park’s history.

The new build will feature upgraded electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, transforming the space back into a modern break room and restroom for workers, according to reports. Park officials also said that the exterior will look almost identical to the old, vintage building to preserve the land’s meticulous 19th-century aesthetic.

The building will has have a new ADA compliant pathway constructed over the train tracks, allowing for safe access from the platform to the break room.

The fire-damaged train station is based on a set from the 1948 Disney film “So Dear To My Heart.”

The scorched building was also used to film the “Two Brothers” section of the stage show “Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln” at Disneyland and The American Adventure at Epcot.
