Despite carrying frozen varieties over the years, Costco quietly debuted Southern-style buttermilk biscuits in its bakery earlier this week, and loyal shoppers are already calling them their newest carb obsession.
The oversized biscuits, sold in packs of 10 for $6.99, are made with real buttermilk and baked fresh daily. The launch quietly rolled out this week after the popular Instagram account @costcohotfinds shared the find, calling it a “dream come true.”
For many Costco devotees, the biscuits filled one of the last glaring holes in the retailer’s legendary bakery lineup.
Social media quickly lit up with shoppers dreaming up all the ways they’d devour them after seeing the post.
“Ohhhhhh with some sausage gravy,” one commenter wrote.
“I’m putting a chicken strip in between them with hot honey,” another said.
But no Costco launch would be complete without a healthy helping of backlash, like as the case recently with the sourdough bread.
“Them biscuits look dry enough to use as car tires,” one commenter joked.
While some were drooling over future ways to enjoy the biscuits, others criticized the lengthy ingredient list and promoted making your own recipe to enjoy an unhealthy snack without even more chemicals.
It is worth noting that dry biscuits do have their place in the culinary world, especially as a breakfast sandwich or in a strawberry shortcake.
But the frenzy isn’t exactly surprising, and that’s because biscuits are a serious business.
