Comedian Andy Dick Reportedly Administered Narcan on the Streets of LA After Apparent Drug Overdose

Comedian Andy Dick was reportedly administered the life-saving medication Narcan after an apparent drug overdose in the streets of Los Angeles.

TMZ reported that Dick’s friends attempted to revive him on Tuesday, December 9, with one shouting at him to “wake up.” Other people at the scene by a building in Hollywood reportedly called an ambulance.

One witness told the publication that a bystander shouted for someone to get Narcan, a medication that quickly reverses an opioid overdose, and administered the shot to Dick.

A rep for the Los Angeles Fire Department told TMZ that they responded to the scene for “an overdose involving a 59-year-old man.” The rep stated that the man was not transported to the hospital.

The Los Angeles Police Department was also called to the scene.

TMZ reported that they spoke to Dick via phone on Tuesday evening, with the actor telling the outlet that he is “alive and relieved he’s OK.” He did not elaborate any further, according to the publication.

Us Weekly has reached out to the LAPD and a rep for Dick for comment.

Dick, who is most known for his stand-up comedy career and for starring in projects like The Ben Stiller Show and The Assistant, has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse. By 2016, he revealed that he had entered drug rehabilitation programs 20 times.

“I would always say that I didn’t have a problem with drugs and alcohol,” he admitted in a Vice interview at the time. “But I would drink when I was happy, when I was sad, when I was anxious. Without drugs or alcohol, I was depressed, frustrated, angry. Honestly, it just stopped being fun when I was crawling around on the floor to find the phone, not able to dial because both my hands were shaking. When I would get ahold of one of the recovery centers, they would hang up when they found out it was me. No one wanted to help me because I was unhelpable. Why would they bring me in just to have me die in their bed?”

Dick has also had several run-ins with the law over the years, including multiple arrests on drug charges and sexual misconduct.

In 1999, Dick pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession, misdemeanor cannabis possession and possession of a “smoking device” after he drove his car into a utility pole. The charges were dismissed after Dick completed an 18-month drug diversion program.

While Tim Allen has played family-friendly characters onscreen, he’s also dealt with his fair share of controversy. Before he became a comedian and an actor, Allen struggled with alcohol and drug addiction after having his first taste as a kid. “After my old man died [when I was 11], I really just played games with […]

In 2008, the Andy Dick Show star was arrested in Murrieta, California, on suspicion of drug possession and sexual battery after he allegedly exposed the breasts of a 17-year-old girl. When police searched him, they allegedly found cannabis and one Xanax tablet, for which he did not have a prescription. Dick ultimately pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and marijuana possession. He was sentenced to three years’ probation, approximately $700 in fines and was ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet for one year.

In 2018, he was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and battery for allegedly groping an Uber driver earlier that year. He later pleaded not guilty. In November 2022, Dick was convicted and sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release.
