CHINO HILLS, Calif. () — A search warrant was served at a home in Irvine following the deadly shooting of suspect who authorities say killed an abducted victim in front of sheriff’s deputies in Chino Hills.
Overnight, he Irvine Police Department posted on Instagram that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department served the warrant on Crossover near Benchmark. Details were not provided, but police did confirm it was in connection to the Chino Hills murder.
It comes after a disturbing sequence of events that started Wednesday night on Monteverde Drive in Chino Hills.
Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a kidnapper who got out of a car and fatally shot an abducted victim in the trunk after chase ended on a street in Chino Hills.
According to investigators, that’s where deputies responded to a report of shots fired and a person yelling for help. The deputies arrived at the scene and spotted the driver of a Nissan Altima with Oregon license plates, then attempted a traffic stop.
“The driver failed to yield and a short pursuit began,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Gloria Orejel. The chase ended on nearby Wandering Ridge Drive.
A surveillance camera at that scene captured what happened after deputies pulled over the Nissan.
In the footage, according to the Sheriff’s Department, a passenger gets out of the car with their arms in the air. The man who was driving also gets out, walks to the trunk of the vehicle, opens it, and shoots the kidnapping victim inside before deputies open fire.
When deputies moved in, they discovered a man inside the trunk. Authorities say the victim was in his 60s and the suspects are 67.
“It is disturbing,” said Orejel. “Apparently there was a victim inside there who had been kidnapped from the previous Monteverde (Drive) address.”
Both the gunman and the kidnapping victim were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken into custody.
The identities of the two dead people have not been released. No deputies were hurt in the shooting.
Authorities are working to determine a motive and the relationship, if any, between the suspects and the victim.
