Kate Middleton is making a strong case for swapping jeans for something a little more sophisticated this fall. The Princess of Wales has Us eyeing plaid midi skirts, and it’s easy to see why. Between their rich autumn colors, flattering silhouettes and preppy, rich-mom appeal, they’re the kind of wardrobe staple that makes even a simple sweater feel instantly chic.
Middleton stepped out wearing a green plaid midi skirt from Emilia Wickstead, which retails for a whopping $2,058. She paired the statement piece with a white ruffled blouse, tailored black blazer, pointed-toe pumps and an emerald green handbag. Luckily, we found a $40 similar version on Amazon that makes copying her anti-denim fall look much more affordable.

The Idealsanxun High Waisted Plaid Skirt has the same long, flowy silhouette and preppy green plaid pattern that make Middleton’s outfit so timeless. Made from a flannel-tweed fabric, it has a wide waistband with an elastic back for extra comfort, plus convenient side pockets. It also comes in brown, burgundy and other fall-ready colors, with sizes ranging from XS to 3X.
More than 1,200 shoppers have given the skirt a five-star rating, and the reviews are just as promising as its design. One shopper called it “stylish, practical and great for colder weather,” adding that the pockets are “a fantastic bonus.” Between the comfortable waistband and classic plaid print, it’s easy to see why this skirt is becoming a fall favorite.
Another reviewer praised the fabric for being “just the right weight to flow prettily” while keeping her warm “without appearing bulky.” That makes it especially appealing for chilly fall days when you want something cozy that still looks elegant. Plus, the flowing midi length pairs beautifully with everything from knee-high boots to ballet flats.
Ready to give your jeans a break? This $40 plaid midi skirt is an easy way to bring a little royal-inspired sophistication to your fall wardrobe without spending designer prices. Pair it with a fitted turtleneck and boots for everyday wear, or copy Middleton’s blouse-and-blazer combination for a rich-looking outfit that works from the office to dinner.
