Kellogg’s is changing the recipe for its iconic Rice Krispies cereal in the United Kingdom, replacing whole rice grains with rice flour as weather-related disruptions affect ingredient supplies.

Kellanova, the company responsible for Kellogg’s cereal brands outside North America, has also reformulated its Coco Pops — aka Cocoa Krispies in the U.S. — replacing whole rice grains with a combination of rice flour and corn flour, according to British grocery publication The Grocer.

The changes will not affect Rice Krispies sold in the United States or Canada, WK Kellogg Co. confirmed to FOX Business.

“Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereals sold in the U.S. and Canada are not impacted by the recently reported recipe changes to Kellogg’s Rice Krispies and Kellogg’s Coco Pops cereals in the U.K.,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.

WK Kellogg Co. said its Rice Krispies, Cocoa Krispies and Frosted Krispies cereals sold in North America will continue to be made with real rice with no changes to their ingredients or recipes.

The two businesses separated in 2023, when the former Kellogg Company split into Kellanova and WK Kellogg Co. Mars acquired Kellanova in December 2025. Ferrero acquired WK Kellogg Co. in September 2025.

Kellanova said the reformulation is intended to maintain consistent product quality as changing weather conditions affect the availability and quality of certain grains.

The updated U.K. recipes also contain wheat gluten, making the cereals unsuitable for consumers with wheat allergies or celiac disease.

The company said the cereals continue to meet British nutritional standards for fat, salt and sugar, while retaining their previous levels of fiber, vitamin D and iron.

Rice Krispies sales have also declined in Britain, according to The Grocer, although the company has not linked the reformulation to falling sales.

Boxes of various Kellogg's cereals are displayed on shelves at a Walmart Supercenter on May 6, 2025 in Austin, Texas.

Other major cereal makers have also been updating their recipes. General Mills announced in August that its U.S. cereals, including Lucky Charms and Trix, no longer contain certified synthetic colors.

The company plans to eliminate those additives from its entire U.S. retail portfolio by the end of 2027.

A representative for Kellanova, which oversees the U.K. cereal brands, did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ requests for comment.
