Baker Mayfield Reunites With Estranged Family After Accusing Them of Stealing Million

It’s been a big offseason for NFL quarterbacks reuniting with their estranged families.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal caller Baker Mayfield revealed he has made up with his family, two years after accusing his father and brother of stealing $12 million from him. The news comes weeks after Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also reunited with his parents.

“In the past few months, I’ve been reconnected with my family,” Mayfield, 31, told the Tampa Bay Times in a story published Tuesday, August 18. “It’s been good.”

He added, “Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it’s tough. What’s in the past is in the past. Emily and I took [daughter Kova] down right around her first birthday. … First time they met her, and you [could] tell it just melted them.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield could only watch as his team’s playoff hopes slipped away on Sunday, January 4, and his wife, Emily, shared those tense moments with the world. “Watching Baker watch football as a ‘fan’ is hilarious,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Sunday. “Haven’t seen him this stressed in a […]

Baker and his wife, Emily, married in 2019. In addition to Kova, 2, they also share son Maverick, 4 months.

The saga between Baker and his family began in 2023 when an audit showed that his father, James, and brother, Matt, had taken almost $12 million from the two-time Pro Bowler and his wife to fund their business, Camwood Capital, from 2018 to 2021. The two sides reached a settlement in January 2024, agreeing that Baker and Emily would be repaid the money.

Baker filed a second lawsuit later that year when James and Matt allegedly did not reimburse him.

“To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement, Defendants have failed to refinance their existing loan, and Defendants have not provided Plaintiffs with access to their books and records,” read the lawsuit, according to the New York Post. “As a result, Plaintiffs have been left with no choice but to file suit for breach of the Settlement Agreement to recover the assets improperly taken from them.”

The case was voluntarily dismissed in March 2025.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and wife Emily Wilkinson’s romance hasn’t been smooth sailing. Before they began dating in 2017, Wilkinson was hesitant to date Mayfield since she assumed he was going to be a “typical playboy athlete.” After getting to know the quarterback on a deeper level, she learned there was more to him. “He’s such […]

“You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and act like I haven’t made mistakes in my life,” Baker told the Tampa Bay Times. “I had the ability to forgive and that was what I wanted to get across. But we’re here and the door is open. The past few months, we have made good progress and began reconnecting.”

While Baker was able to forgive, he also has his eyes on much more money. Heading into his ninth NFL season, Baker is weeks removed from revealing he rejected a contract extension offer from the Buccaneers worth a reported $100 million over two years. He is believed to be seeking a longer commitment worth in the same neighborhood per year that the Buccaneers offered.

If Baker and the team can’t come to an agreement, he will be a free agent at the end of this coming season. Despite his future being up in the air, Baker said the Bucs are going to be bringing their A-game.

“I think we’re going to shock a lot of people this year,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “I’m excited to just get on the road and do that.”
