Bachelor Nation’s Joe Amabile thanked his friend Busy Philipps for supporting him as they both recently recovered from surgeries to remove brain tumors.
“I talked to Busy Philipps and she told me, ‘I love my [care] team at NYU,’” Amabile, 40, recalled on the Wednesday, September 15, episode of his “Not Married to This” podcast. “Busy actually got me into NYU to go see [neurosurgeon Dr. John G. Golfinos].”
Amabile underwent a procedure to remove an early-stage brain tumor in July while Philipps, 47, revealed in August that she’d recently had a brain operation as well after being diagnosed with a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, a rare slow-growing tumor.
While speaking out about his health journey, the reality star and his wife, Serena Pitt, revealed that Philipps gave them crucial guidance on where to seek treatment.
Pitt, 28, added that having a personal referral to NYU from Philipps made her and Amabile “feel so comfortable” about the Bachelorette alum’s treatment options.
“[Busy] had a very similar story and a similar finding. Mine’s on the left side, hers is on the right side,” Amabile noted. “Her surgery went well.”
The couple credited Philipps for “going out of her way” to be supportive to them at a time when she was dealing with her own health issues.
“You don’t have to do that,” Amabile pointed out. “She’s been wonderful. The conversation I had with her really made me feel OK. It was pre-surgery and she made me feel very confident going into surgery.”
Pitt added, “[Busy is] a great example of someone who had nothing to gain from reaching out and asking if we wanted her help. [She] was so selfless with her time, constantly messaging to check in. Meeting up with Joe, having conversations, referring us to NYU.”

“We cannot thank her enough, truly,” Pitt continued. “She is just a selfless person.”
The Dawson’s Creek actress has continued to publicly support Amabile as he recovers from surgery. Earlier this month, Philipps offered encouragement when the reality star shared multiple close-up photos of his brain surgery staples and healing scar via Instagram.
“Omg it looks so good👏👏👏(lol i won’t text you mine from when it got infected.),” she wrote in the comments section, to which Amabile joked, “Yeah, no need to 😂”
Philipps shared some positive news about her own prognosis on September 8, confirming that an MRI showed “no sign of [a] tumor” six months after she went under the knife.

The actress previously revealed that her tumor was discovered during a Prenuvo full-body scan in February, just one day after her former Dawson’s Creek costar James Van Der Beek died at age 48 from complications of stage III colorectal cancer. Philipps considered postponing her scan in light of Van Der Beek’s death before ultimately going ahead with the procedure in her late friend’s honor.
As for Amabile’s recovery, Pitt confirmed on Wednesday’s “Not Married to That” podcast episode that her husband is in the middle of a “months-long journey.”
“You’re doing so well and recovery has been pretty good for the most part, pretty smooth, we’re still in recovery. We’re going to be in it for a while,” she reiterated. “We’re not fully back to normal. We’re kinda in our new normal.”
