The Golden Bachelorette‘s Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple announced their decision to end their engagement.
“Two years ago, Chock and I took a leap of faith and got engaged during our season of The Golden Bachelorette, hoping we had found our forever,” Vassos, 63, wrote via her Instagram Story on Friday, November 6. “We spent the last two years living what we hoped would be the beginning of our love story, sharing our families, amazing adventures, laughter, and supporting each other through challenging times.”
Vassos then confirmed the former couple’s decision to part ways.
“Sadly, our journey hasn’t turned out the way we had hoped and we have decided to end our engagement,” she continued. “We truly want each other to be happy, and I’m grateful for the chapter we shared.”
Chapple, also 63, later posted a similarly worded statement via his own Instagram Story.
The pair found love during the inaugural season of ABC’s The Golden Bachelorette in 2024. After getting engaged during the finale, Vassos and Chapple chose not to rush into tying the knot — or moving in together.

“We had no idea how hard it was to rent a place in New York and how busy we were going to be,” Vassos told Us in December 2025 about her ongoing search to find a home with Chapple. “We decided that we just wanted to be there to start the whole month of December because it’s just so magical in New York City.”
At the time, Vassos admitted she had felt “pressure” from fans for her relationship to succeed.
“If something happened with us, which nothing is going to happen, but if something did, it would be hard on the Golden franchise,” she added. “I’m not sure if I ever said this to anybody, but I felt a lot of pressure to be successful [as the Golden Bachelorette] because [The Golden Bachelor season 1’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist] had just broken up right before I started filming, like, within months. And I felt a lot of pressure that if I wasn’t successful, if I didn’t find somebody, that it would be the end of it. I felt super responsible. I got lucky.”
More recently, Vassos and Chapple were asked on social media when they planned to get married.
“We get that [question] all the time,” Chapple wrote via Instagram in February. “In 2025, Joan had a big wedding for her oldest son, Nick. And then she’s got another one getting married this year, so we’ve elected to not compete with them. Let them have their year.”
He added: “You might look for something in 2027.”
Joan — who shares sons Nicholas, 36, and Luke, 29, and daughters Erica, 33, and Allison, 30, with late husband John Vassos — agreed with her then-fiancé, adding, “Yeah, ’27. Hopefully, nobody else will get married, but I think you have a son who possibly could, so we’ll see!”
She continued: “We have grown kids and they just happen to be falling into that part of their lives too. We’ll get married sometime when our kids aren’t getting married.”
