A 3-year-old soccer player in Florida was removed from a youth league after complaints from other parents that he was outperforming older children, according to his family.
Video shared by the family shows the child, Nevada, playing soccer against 5-year-olds. His parents described him as a soccer phenom and said he has been competing against children older than him.
The family said other parents complained to league officials Saturday that Nevada was too skilled and did not pass the ball enough.
According to the family, league officials then asked Nevada to leave the league. The dispute escalated, eventually leading a league official to call police.
Police responded and escorted the family away from the field.
The league later offered Nevada a spot on a different team, but his family said they plan to decline the offer.
The disagreement has drawn attention because of Nevada’s age and ability, with the family maintaining that complaints stemmed from his strong performance against older players.
