Peacock subscribers have good reasons to be happy with the streamer’s movie selections in February.
Two of this month’s new additions were nominees for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Both of those flicks made it into Watch With Us‘ roundup of the three best Peacock movies to binge-watch this weekend.
Our picks include a love story that captured the country’s imagination in 1990, a compelling drama and an underrated action flick.
‘Ghost’ (1990)
The Naked Gun and Airplane co-director, Jerry Zucker, broke out of the zany comedy genre with a supernatural romance film called Ghost. This film was a blockbuster in 1990 and earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination as well as a Best Supporting Actress award for Whoopi Goldberg.
Patrick Swayze stars as Sam Wheat, a man who is murdered in front of his girlfriend, Molly Jensen (Demi Moore). Sam may be dead, but he’s got unfinished business in this world when his murderer is linked to someone he thought of as a friend. To warn Molly that she’s in danger, Sam recruits a fake psychic, Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg), to be his medium. Oda never showed any real supernatural gifts until she met Sam. Now, he won’t stop tormenting her unless she agrees to help him save Molly.

‘Fences’ (2016)
Denzel Washington stepped into the director’s chair to adapt August Wilson‘s play Fences, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Washington also plays the lead role of Troy Maxson, a former baseball player in the Negro Leagues who remains embittered over missing his chance to play in the Major Leagues. Troy takes out some of that frustration on his son, Cory Maxson (Jovan Adepo), whom he forbids from taking part in sports.
Troy is married to Rose Lee Maxson (Viola Davis), and he doesn’t make it easy for her to love him. His broken relationship with Cory is only one of the reasons why Troy’s choices lead him to become estranged from Rose while living under the same roof. There may not even be a way for Troy to salvage his relationships with his wife or his son.
Fences is streaming on Peacock.
‘Enemy of the State’ (1998)
Will Smith was still peaking as an action star when he headlined Tony Scott‘s Enemy of the State. This may not be a Best Picture nominee like the other two films on this list, but it’s a great action thriller worth your time.
Smith plays Robert Clayton Dean, a happily married lawyer who still works alongside his former flame, Rachel Banks (Lisa Bonet). A chance encounter with an old friend leaves Robert with evidence that could expose National Security Agency Assistant Director Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight) as a murderer.
To find that evidence, Reynolds systematically destroys Robert’s life and reputation. His only hope of getting everything back is Edward Lyle (Gene Hackman), an enigmatic former NSA operative with close ties to Rachel. Even with Edward’s expertise, Robert can only hide from Reynolds’ resources for so long. If he wants his life back, Robert is going to have to fight for it.
